its 7:13 in the morning and I just came back from the best party i have been to in atleast 6 months.

The worst part of the party was when that guy who aparently is now party-stalking me was there. Yes its true, jean workmens bodysuit that looks like JD from le tigre is back. Thanks dagney... yea you... its your drunken ass that told him to get on my nuts the other night and after i politely gave him the shut-down through body-language you then preceeded to introduce him to me. The bad part about that is that... wait what am i saying there is absolutley no shed of good in that action since not only did i find out his name but i also found out he's sort of dinky in the head. yay. anyways he stalked me on the dancefloor all night and when i gave him the brush off too many times he decided it be best to introduce himself to me again. he says:

"Hey my name is --insert creepy guy name here 'cause i forgot"

me: "Yea, I know we've met already"

JD: looks of dissapointment

me: looks of purging and walk right past him to corrie on dancefloor

The best part about this party was that it had meatty drama. There was the thing between two mutual friends (ex-coworker), there was Chevy's sexual assaulting (<--- like the pamphlet said every 1 and 3 in their lifetime), JD, The weird afro i'm wearing a very uncool t-shirt guy who I had to help up from the ground after he passed out on the dancefloor and then wouldn't drink the water i was giving him becasue "it's warm!," and ofcourse there was Jesse from Ohio, and finally the drama of the soundstystem cutting off.

Mid party when Jeff was on the tables and not really rocking the party I had the internal dillema of figuring out whether or not to go get my Records which were only 6 blocks away. Would the party still be jumping after i get back from retrieving them? Will the soundsystem keep up? Will the party get shut down?

After Mikey threw me down some scrilla for the cab I ran out to Haight and hailed a cab over to my new crib. A little drunk I chatted up the cabby asking him to wait outside my place and that I only had $10 for the whole trip, nothing more.

Thank god i organized my records into categories the other day otherwise I woulda been in my room organizing forever, thankfully I grabbed the rocking party pile and the oldies but goodies pile and some of the non-experimental electronica pile, threw them in a crate and ran for the door and antsy cab. On my way out the door beth yelled out where's the party to which i told her the wrong address opened the door again and yelled in the right address, closed the door again and ran for the cab.

Jeff is a much nicer Dj to work with that Erin. Erin has a greedyness to his table that Jeff dosen't. I mean all Djs want as much time on the deck that they can some people know when to give in and somepeople want to correct their mistakes. After Jeff threw an AWESOME set and then after innergasming the room it cleared out and he let me on. I threw a phat ass set. Primal Scream's - Rocks was the first song i put on and it worked, i think that song will always work. I rocked the scissor sisters, the bee gees, the rogers sisters (song: zero point) and some other shizzie. The party rocked on until 5ish. I ended up sticking around and cleaning and mopping their house. Jeff is definitley gonna spin rocksoff, he's good.

and the song of the night was a Journey single which had the dancfloor holding up a guy crowd-surf style. I tried to yell at Jeff to let look up and see what madness he had created but he didn't know until I told him later.

Now I am stoned and took a scroching (to kill the herpes) hot bath and its watched to sunrise. To sleep or not to sleep tis the question.

Once again... go out and get the album: M83 - Dead cities....

It was my first "underground" indie show in LA before. Saw an amazing band called one arm radio (sleepy dreamy music with violins beats, beautiful male vocals and guitars. The tracks are not new stylistically but executed perfectly. The vinyl rocks cause its gray and marbled.

Going back to SF just in time.

So far I have had some great times here. Saw the Thermals (orgasmically good), saw Sonic Youth (the show had many extra benefits like a contact at World of Wonder productions!), saw Jesse Deluxe 2X(my new favorite band jessedeluxe.com, check them out live you losers!).

Klok's record release party is going to be off the hook! Gangsta Gangsta get off my turf!

Can wait to go back to SF and make mix tapes with all the new music I have. 1 is going to Ian the other to Chad the other to LA peeps! Have all sorts of new music for Thea's (I misssss you!) working life. Can't wait to go house shopping with all my homies.
The food in LA is super gross, can't wait for a mission burrito and some grilled cheeses!

P.s. all my peeps in sf I'm bringing back some lingo to y'all so get ready to get served.... I'm throwing a party as soon as I get back and am gonna spin with my 20 new rekids!

I love how the best things that arrive on my doorstep always have to become forcably temporary.
From Margaret Cho's Blog.....

What is heaven like Elliott Smith? I have been listening to your records since I got home this morning and I found out that you died. Did you get to meet Him right away? I bet they moved you to the front of the line. Is God nice? Do you feel better? Your songs were like the thoughts that rushed through my head all the time, this bittersweet dark rainy loveliness that wouldn't leave me, and I never wanted them to leave me, but sometimes it was sad, and sadness is kind of my religion, and I worshipped you because you weren't afraid to show it. I cannot believe that your soft voice is now silent and there is only these Kill Rock Stars cds left, that swirly Figure 8 album cover, looking like it was lifted from that Silverlake storefront, all your songs, the perfect lyrical accompaniment to my own personal loneliness to remember you by. I wish I had told you how much your music meant to me, to so many many people. There was a bunch of times I could have said it, when I saw you hanging out at the back of Largo and you with your vintage tee and rust cords and All Stars, but I got scared that you wouldn't like me, and I never said anything. A handful of times I saw you in New York, walking fast in the East Village, but it was like you were surrounded by a light that held you up above the street and you didn't touch the ground but floated up above just an inch or so that you were there but not there. I could see you but you couldn't see me.

You were supposed to save pop music. Remember that LA Weekly cover? Your face on the front, looking scared and beautiful, and I am sorry, so so so very sorry that you are gone. What happened? I guess it doesn't matter now and nothing does really. I just feel sorry and bad that we couldn't do anything to help. That all the people that loved you really didn't make much of a difference. That our love wasn't enough, or didn't reach you, or put you off, that you were unhappy anyway. But maybe your unhappiness was what we loved about you, so that our love was a constant reminder of how much unhappiness you had. I understand. We were selfish then, and for that I am angry for you. Mad for you. Sad for you. Loving you from here on the earth where things aren't so great, not at all, but fuck you made things a lot better and now that you are not here we just all have to act like life goes on and there goes another rock star and its better to burn out instead of fade away and whatever the fuck - whatever the fuck. All I can say is that I am crying as I write this, as I listen to your secretly sorry voice on Either/Or and I am wondering if you are hovering in the air above your house, watching the grief stricken fans and old friends walking wounded trying to understand where you went, why you went. If they can reach you now, with their thoughts, their hearts, their love. Can you see them? Does it make anything better? A whole shitload of hipsters are crying right now, hiding behind their ironic 70s sunglasses and vintage western snap front shirts. Legions of girls with scars from cutting themselves and dyed black hair are lighting candles and contemplating joining you today. Thirtysomething dudes with dirty shag haircuts are shaking their heads, looking down at their big jokey belt buckles, thinking about having a beer before the sun goes down, because it isn't a good day for any of us, because you aren't here to represent.

One time I was in Portland on tour, an early morning before I was about to leave for home and I walked into a bagel shop. You were there, not in person, but your record was playing. The sleepy, baby cute hippie kid behind the counter was singing along to you, quiet just like you, and he knew every word. There was another raggedy girl cleaning up tables behind me, and she was singing too. Then this other kid came into the shop, and waited in line, and he was singing - as if on cue, a little off key, but almost in harmony. Pretty soon, so was I. But we were all in our own private worlds, our voices barely audible, singing only for ourselves. Were you singing for yourself? I hope so. I hope that you could love your music like it was loved by everyone else.

Goodbye gentle soul. Goodnight. How sorry I am to see you go. But you were maybe too beautiful for this world. So beautiful that it hurt to be in it. I hope that you are not hurting anymore. I hope everything is good wherever you are. I hope that you are happy. Everything reminds me of you.

My Essay is finally done, now I can sleep for three hours!

What is the Bible? What are the texts of Homer? Are they codes for living? Are they fiction? Are they philosophy? Are they documentation? Whatever they are they must be understood as food for thought, they must be interpreted. And before the texts are opened or after they are read, it must be understood who wrote them, where they come from, and when. This sort of premeditated consideration is key to reflection. How does this book affect me? How is it relevant? How is it irrelevant? But, without this sort of understanding, the text’s meaning can be greatly misunderstood. This can be seen in the development of religion. To understand the society we live in today is to understand the act of misinterpretation, the power of the word, and the power of the teacher.
The power of misinterpretation of the biblical and epic texts can be seen in every aspect of modern society. The Holy Bible has become less of a text for debate and more a strict code of living. To prove this and to have a greater understanding of its effects we can look at any specific instance in the 20th century. One of those instances is the life and death of Harvey Milk.
On November 27th, 1978 former Supervisor Dan White assassinated both San Francisco’s District Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. Before we can understand why? We must understand who. Harvey Milk was the first ever openly gay man to be elected a government official in the United States. His homosexuality, being most significant to his name as a politician, can also be understood as most significant in our understanding of his life. Growing up gay in the 1930’s meant Harvey Milk was an outsider. His sexuality forced himself outside of the American dream. Also, growing up gay in a Jewish household meant that he was not accepted by the belief system in which he born.
According to the bible homosexuality is a sin. This is discussed in the story of Sodom and Gemorah where it is presumed that the act of homosexuality has fated the destruction of the city, Sodom, by God. The bible also specifically states in Leviticus 18:22: "You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is abomination." There are many other references to which the bible makes point that Homosexuality is considered a sin. But, taken in the right context, these statements are not a direct attack on homosexuals or the act of homosexuality but on its relevance in the specific period of time the bible was written. If the Bible is understood as being a direct statement toward the peoples of it’s time then we can understand it’s comments on homosexuality as out of a time of crisis. It can be interpreted that the practice of homosexuality, in its inability to produce offspring was not encouraged, as it wasn’t relevant in the preservation of a people. But, Harvey Milk grew up around religion’s whose understanding of the Bible was as a timeless text and not a text that is understood for it’s historical significance. Harvey had to deal with the belief that homosexuality was a sin even if the practice had no effect on the preservation of the population. The scientific study of sexual orientation didn’t start until the 1950’s, at least 20 years after Milk was born and at least 6 years until Harvey understood his sexual orientation. Therefore some might argue that the understanding of homosexuality scientifically and socially wasn’t even out in the open until after Harvey was born. How can religion put the Bible’s statements on homosexuality in perspective if the issue isn’t even being understood? But, if we look at history, it has been understood that homosexuality was practiced freely in Greek and Roman times without protest. Therefore the defense that homosexuality was never accepted or understood in a positive light until the 20th century is false. But, regardless of this, Christianity and Judaism has been highly critical of the acts of homosexuality.
Not only was homosexuality during Harvey’s lifetime considered a sin but it was also considered illegal. In 1683 Pennsylvania law called sodomy an "unnatural sin" and the East New Jersey law listed it among the "Offenses against God." This can be seen, just in its wording, a direct reference to the religious ideal that homosexuality is a sin. But, the legislation also helps us understand religious influence on U.S. policy, specifically the Sodomy Laws. So, for Harvey Milk this ostracism made him not only understand the inherent contradictions in the systems under which he was raised, but helped to drive him to become a politician. Harvey’s disapproval of the system drives him to become a force for change. His understanding that at least one aspect of the popular opinion is wrong and this helps him become sensitive to other injustices. This is what separates him from his fellow supervisor and eventual murderer Dan White.
Dan White, raised Irish-catholic, and often described an “all American boy” can be understood as growing up a life somewhat contrary to Milk. Married and identified openly as heterosexual, we can understand White as not feeling the specific heat from religious homophobia. Religious identity and sexual preference aside, Dan White, before becoming a city Supervisor for San Francisco’s District 8, was a San Francisco policeman. Because the Sodomy Laws of California weren’t repealed until 1975 it can be understood that Dan White, under his efforts as a policeman, the prevention of homosexuality was his civil duty and part of his profession. So, when White won supervisor in 1978, his ideology on the issue of homosexuality had been influenced by not only state law but the religious influence on its existence. White campaigned for the “restoration of traditional values to San Francisco city government.” As a conservative politician, White believed that the system worked and its preservation was key. Dan White’s frustration with the system differs from that of Milk in his understanding that the system works. White’s lifestyle doesn’t find contradictions in the system nor do they clash with his religious belief structure. So it is understood how the principles of White and Milk greatly conflict. On their notions of homosexuality alone, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the playing field.
But, what drove Dan White to murder his political counterpart? If it was in deed an assassination, what drove White to murder in the name of ideas? Where did he find justification for his actions? If we look at the Bible for its views on murder we find some interesting connections. One way we can understand the Bible’s views on the justification for murder is in Chapter 22 of Genesis. In this Chapter Abraham is called on by God to slaughter his first-born son. Abraham under a test of fate by God does as he is commanded and takes his only son to be killed by his own hands. Right before he is about to slaughter his son, God calls upon Abraham to stop. It is understood that the willingness and blind faith by Abraham to kill his own son, someone he loves dearly, is the highest form of faith towards god that could be shown. Taken under a literal interpretation this book in the Bible can implies that under the commandments of God murder is justified. So, for Dan White, it can be conceived that his murder of Milk and Moscone, if the Bible is understood as a code for living, is justified. His acts were under the highest authority, God.

“In 1975, the liberal Democratic state Senate Majority Leader, George Moscone — running for Mayor of San Francisco — twisted many arms for [the repeal of California’s Sodomy Laws]. The Senate deadlocked on a 20-20 vote, Moscone locked the chamber doors, until Lieutenant Governor Merv Dymallyin could fly back from Denver and cast the tie-breaking vote.”

Not only was White killing the sinner and criminal, the openly gay Harvey Milk, but also he was killing the defender of criminals. Whether he was acting under the call of religious piety or under the call of the “concerned citizen”/ex-cop, White was under the religious influence of his belief structure as a motivation for murder.
But, another type of justification for murder can be seen for Dan White. According to Simone Weil’s The Illiad or the Poem of Force the Illiad, Homer’s epic poem, can be interpreted as a comment on the horrors of murder and its ability to dehumanize and strip man of his dignity. But, she also states:

“The Romans and Hebrews both thought themselves exempt from common human misfortune, the former as a nation desired to be master of the world, the latter by the favor of their God and precisely in proportion as the favor of their God and precisely in proportion as they were obedient to him…Throughout twenty centuries of Christianity, Romans and Hebrews have been admired, read, emulated in deeds and words, cited when ever a crime needed justification.”

According to Weil, Homer’s epics have been greatly misunderstood. In their misinterpretation, the Romans have used the books as justification for the act of war and murder. This false claim has had resound effects on all of the ideology it preceded.
The Roman misinterpretation of Homer’s books can be seen as having a devastating effect on the historical development of thought on war and murder in general. Specifically in Homer’s the Odyssey we can see how White could identify with the main character. In the Odyssey, the main character Odysseus, a highly regarded war hero, is faced with the threat by a group of sinister and misguided suitors on his home. Among the many different adventures in the epic poem, Odysseus must find his way home to keep these suitors from stealing his wife, family, and livelihood away from him. When he arrives home, in attempt to recapture the life that had been stolen from him from years of being “missing in action”, Odysseus slaughters the suitors. Reading the Odyssey you grow to love and root for Odysseus as the underdog and someone you can relate to. So, when he brutally murders the countless suitors, who have invaded his home, the reader cheers in support in this long awaited serve up of justice. Not only does the reader identify with Odysseus as being dealt with many bad hands and finally getting the luck of the draw but the American reader can identify with Odysseus’ defense of property. Something that might resonate true with White in the case of Odysseus, is the life, liberty and pursuit of justice. In this case, the death of the suitors can be seen as the protection of private property.
The idea of Democracy finds its lineage from Roman politics. So, at least on a subconscious level, White’s praise of the basic principles the United States was founded on can be considered one way he admired Roman thought. The Odyssey can be seen as just another Roman influence on Whites psyche. But, upon a more careful reading of this chapter in the Odyssey after Odysseus has slain all of the suitors Homer describes:

“In the shadowy hall full of dead men she found his father spattered and caked with blood like a mountain lion when he has gorged upon an ox, his kill- with hot blood glistening over his whole chest, smeared on his jaws, baleful and terrifying- even so encrimsoned was Odysseus up to his thighs and armpits.”

The description here made by Homer is anything but glamorous. “Terrifying” even, Homer describes the act of murder totally unjustifiable. In the eyes of Homer, Odysseus’s actions prove him to be just as barbaric as the lion killing his prey. What the Odyssey and what the Iliad are trying to tell us, when read for their deeper meaning, is that killing, regardless of motivation, is all the same. But just as Simone Weil tries to point out, this point has been missed and it has had grave effects on the history of man’s collective knowledge.
On May 21st, 1979, Dan White was put on trial for the murder of Moscone and Milk. According to the courts ruling, Dan White was not a murderer but rather a “voluntary manslaughterer.” According to the courts Dan White killed without premeditation or so-called "malice aforethought" (an evil intent prior to the killing). Manslaughter is distinguished from murder (which brings greater penalties) by lack of any prior intention to kill anyone or create a deadly situation. Whites defense was based on a temporary insanity triggered by eating too much junk food combined with moral outrage. The defense used White’s good qualities and reputation fine moral character to appeal (no pun intended) to the jury. According to witnesses, members of the jury wept in sympathy for White after hearing his confession. The tactics worked as White, who most believed would get the death penalty, got 7 years in prison. People were outraged.

“What the verdict did to our sensitivity was to say: “You know it’s not important to be civil in American society and it’s not important to honor other peoples right as long as you are white and you uphold certain white middle-class values, because you are going to get away with murder and you are going to be condoned.”-John Der
Dan White could only understand his actions as being justified. According to his religious beliefs his actions were justified. According to his co-workers at the San Francisco Police Department, his actions were justified. According to the court systems his actions were justified. All of White’s conditioning has led him to the conclusion that murder was the answer. But, in the outrage against the verdict, in a night that is now referred to as the “White Night Riots,” and the dissenting voices of those like John Der, there is seen a resounding force against Dan White. This outrage didn’t subside. After serving 5 years in prison and after being paroled, White tried to return to a normal life in his hometown of San Francisco. However, still found resistance for his actions when, Diane Feinstein (the president of the board of supervisors at the time of the murders) petitioned against his being allowed to return. These voices against White proved to be so overwhelming that after only 8 months of being free from prison he committed the ultimate sin of taking his own life.
We can only imaging the thoughts that went through Dan White’s mind moments before he committed suicide. Up until that fateful day that White decided to take action, all of his concepts on life were sensible. Not only were his beliefs upheld by his peers, but they had been strongly argued for centuries. Even after his acts of murder, his beliefs were upheld and true. So when the world reacted contrary to his preconceptions he turned to law for answers of his fate. Even justice failed Dan White. It was only until after his trial can we assume that White was given his rude awakening. Everything he knew and trusted was wrong. White finally felt what it was like to be ostracized, to be hated for things out of his control, to be Milk. The voice of spirituality had failed him, the voice of reason had failed him, and no matter how hard he tried White could not bring back the lives that paid the price for his being the victim of misinformation.

“When you have believed your entire life in a certain structure, believing in certain sex roles, believing in the certain ways that men and women should relate to one another, believing in the family…And all of a sudden there are these perverts out here saying that there are ways to live that are different than that and furthermore that its great and true and beautiful and good, then you’re threatened. And the very fabric of what this nation is supposed to be made up of in the eyes of the fundamentalists was actually being attacked, or is actually being attacked, by gay people.” -Professor Sally Gearheart (Times of Harvey Milk)

“No one has ever described with such bitterness the misery of man, which renders him unable to even comprehend his misery.” –Simione Weil (The Iliad or the Poem of Force)

so i am writing a paper on how the misinterpretation of the bible led to the death of both Moscone and Harvey Milk and check this out, something they never mention in the documentary: Times of Harvey Milk...

Connecticut was the next state to repeal its sodomy law in 1971 in a modernization of the penal code. Twenty-one other states followed suit. Gay activists had little or no involvement with most of these repeals. In fact, many of the states that repealed their laws are just beginning to form organizations that can lobby effectively for their rights.
Exceptions that trend came from California, Minnesota, New York and DC. Gay Activists in these places began explicit gay rights campaigns to repeal their sodomy laws. California was the only one of these states to sucessfully repeal its law prior to 1980.

California’s sodomy repeal effort began in 1969 with urging from Morris Kight, Rev. Troy Perry and others. The repeal bill was introduced to the California legislature starting in 1969 by Assemblyman Willie Brown, and every year afterwards until its passage in 1975. In 1975, the liberal Democratic state Senate Majority Leader, George Moscone — running for Mayor of San Francisco — twisted many arms for its passage. The Senate deadlocked on a 20-20 vote, Moscone locked the chamber doors, until Lieutenant Governor Merv Dymallyin could fly back from Denver and cast the tie-breaking vote. It was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Moscone’s efforts won the support of the large gay population of San Francisco and Moscone beat Diane Feinstein in the primary, and edged out city superintendent John Barbagelata to become the first liberal mayor of San Francisco. Moscone was later assisnated by former supervisor Dan White along with the first gay supervisor, Harvey Milk. Brown and Feinstein later became Mayors and Feinstein is currently a US Senator from California.

Not only did Moscony rock... but hello, why did White kill him? lemme see?

So I just got back from the San Francisco Flash Mob #4.
IT ROCKED!

I got to the cafe according to my birthmonth a little early so I went in and bought a bottled water. I replied "I'm most likely waiting for the same thing you are (ooo how 007 secret agent)?" Then he hands me a piece of paper that says this:

Instructions- San Francisco MOB #4- "The Paparazzi" Wednesday September 10th,2003

PLEASE IMMEDIATELY READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. Read them several times if necessary until you know them by heart. Then fold up the sheet, stash it, and dont take it out again until the sun goes down. THIS SHEET SHOULD NOT BE VISIBLE ON YOUR WAY TO OR AT THE MOB SCENE.

1.) at 6:14 head to the starting point. The starting point is the Bart entrance in front of the Hyatt hotel at Market and Drumm. You should be on the North side of Market, by the cable car turnaround. Do not enter the Bart station, remain on the street.

2.) The flash mob begins at precisely 6:22pm. Everyone leaving or entering the Bart station is now wildly famous. Take their picture and ask for their autographs. Please on't touch the celebrities, and be polite..."can I get a picture with you for my son Billy, he would just love it..." If anyone asks what is going on make something up: "Don't you recognize that lady? She's from 'Return of The Turtle Wax 2!!!" You get the idea.

4.) At exactly 6:29 the mob disperses. Don't linger in the area- run away!

So at 6:14 a group of about 40 or so people and I headed down in unassuming packs to the said location. When we got there I saw the other groups from other meeting locations had arrived. The median where the bart entrance was was extreemly small and I thought how hilarious it is going to be for all of those people to be on it.

6:22 and everyone rushes over to the Bart station exit. Everyone has camera and paper and pens and suddenly the crowd goes into a roar as the first people start exiting the bart station. People cheered as they came up the escalator yelling out "look its leverne and shirley!" or look its "Bruce Willis" as random commuters found themselves the center of attention for atleast a hundred people flashing cameras and putting out paper and pen for autographs. A woman came up to me and said "Who is it?" reffering to the crowds attention. I replies "Dont you know? Its the main actress from Fellini's seventh film!" she goes "Where?" and I go "Over there!" pointing in the general direction of the crowd.

A business man goes down the bart escalator and as cameras go off in his general direction I yell out "Sir! Sir! We're dying to know, whens the engagement?" He replies, "Ask Rumsfeld."

And all of a sudden 6:29 comes and its all over. People disperse in every direction with the anyonomous looks they came with. I was so disappointed too, I wanted it to last forever. Here are some pictures...

For more information visit: www.mobstir.com

I am actively pursuing this job opportunity at Rasputin. Its not necessarily an opportunity but rather a friendship I am trying to build with the manager there that goes to my school. I went in there today to drop off a flyer for tommorows show at OBOY.
I picked up an album while I was there: SPOON's Girls Can Tell. Good stuff, not terribly original but really just good stuff.

Erase Errata was really good. A friend from school joined me at the concert too and we both rocked out. We went to the presidio area and had pizza and then we both just wanted to crash majorly so I went home via OWL Muni Busses.

I need to shower, clean my piercing, and go to bed!
